Balboa Park

About Balboa Park

Balboa Park is one of the nation's premier urban parks, and is widely considered the crown jewel of San Diego. The Park covers 1,200 acres and includes recreational and passive park space, gardens, trails, museums, performing arts and international culture organizations, along with the world famous San Diego Zoo. The Park has a rich historic legacy having hosted International Expositions in 1915 and 1935. The Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and Southwestern architecture of many of the buildings in the Central Mesa built for the expositions are included in a National Historic Landmark District. While Balboa Park is a regional treasure, it also serves as a neighborhood park to the surrounding communities of Golden Hill, North Park, Uptown and Downtown.
